Havoc Ub3r Truck Update

Went and got final measurements for the Havoc race truck. The initial layout was pretty close, but there was some major changes that had to be done on the hood. Initially they wanted the flames to roll off the hood and fade into the flag, but we dont have the truck to do absolute templates for. I've seen the truck 2 times now and the next time will be when we start the wrap.

The photoshop file has only swelled to 780 megs and I only have a few more small parts to create, headlights and the back of the cab. It looks like next weekend will be the wrap date, with printing on Wednesday and Thursday. The first race for the truck will be the following weekend out in Barstow. I'll snap some pixs when it's done, and hopefully it will survive the first race!

Latest Project... Havoc Wrap

Work nears the end on a local project for Havoc Motorsports, Sign Tek and Grizzly construction. They're wrapping a race truck and we just about settled on a finished layout.

Work started by photographing the truck and getting some rough measurements, then laying it out full scale in Illustrator. All the logos and the flag was built in Illustrator then taken over to PhotoShop for the bitmap work.

The flag has a few hours in it. I did the waving part of the checkers in Illustrator then brought the image into PS for the tattered edges, drop shadows and blur top layers. That part turned out better than I thought it was going to and I was quite happy with the results.

The customer wanted flames on the hood and my first render had some lame lobster claw flames on the front. I wasnt happy with it but I figured I'd sent it off any way just to make sure I was going in the right direction with the rest of the truck.

"I want it to look like the front is on fire". So a quick trip to Istock and I found 3 different flame photos that worked pretty good. They obviously got a lot of work done on them in PS but I'm quite pleased with the results.

The PS images are full scale at 100dpi. The wrap is going to be printed on a Roland, so I've done most of my work in RGB and left the blacks as a rich CMYK mix. Mutohs and Rolands love this black instead of the usual 100% K.

Monday...

I feel the same way about Mondays as I do about disco.... Gotta love Hunter. So begins a new work week. I got notification over the weekend that the 20,000 catalogs we ordered a few weeks ago were ready for shipping.

Work continues on the Wish I Had That catalog that is in it's (hopefully) final stages. The beast has grown from 88 pages to 96 back to the current 92. All that is theoretically left is final price updating for spring/summer 09.

The catalogs coming in are the self covered RoJico catalogs on #60 gloss. I'm curious to see them. The last ones turned out great, especially for the price, but they we're #100 book cover with perfect bound #80 pages.

Oh well, off to work.

So I'm Here...

And I'm new to the process. I dont have much to share at this foul hour of the morning. Work looms with the rising of the sun in a short few hours.
